Their purpose is the provision of intellectual development that allows people to obtain knowledge and experience that broadens perspectives and prepares for careers of all kinds. Schools frequently assist in placing students in cooperative programs that advance knowledge through nurturing on-the-job short-term internships. In this environment, students are able to learn the intricacies and applications in their field. This also serves to make contacts leading to positions after graduation. Schools may government by education boards or boards of governors. University and college boards of governors are made up of trustees, presidents, vice presidents, and deans that serve divisions, departments or "schools," as in "School of Business," or "School of Psychology."
