Laser Eye Surgery Complication - Rare And Rectified, In Most Cases

Laser eye surgery complication is rare but being fully aware of the complications that might occur after a surgery is part of the preparation process. The percentage of people suffering from corneal infection post-surgery is very low. The percentage is as low as less than one percent. These complications can result in slowing down the healing process. Proper post operative care can allow a patient to heal faster and deal with complications which emerge after the surgery. Laser eye surgery complications that are common are:

Under Or Over Correction:

A major laser eye surgery complication is under or over correction. A surgeon sometimes is unable to predict exactly the eyes' response to a treatment would be in this condition. A protective eye wear is worn by patients after the procedure. If the complication is very severe, then the laser eye surgery practitioners or surgeons advise to undergo another surgical procedure to counter it.

Corneal Haze:

Related to patients, who undergo PRK laser eye surgery, this condition is a common part of the recovery process. The condition, corneal haze does not affect a patient's vision after recovery. The risk of Corneal haze is lesser in patients who choose the lasik treatment.

Regression:

Regression, a laser eye surgery complication is annoying since the eye retreats to the pre-operative state even after a surgical procedure. If the risk rate is higher, then the patient undergoes another surgical procedure.

Halo Effect:

The PRK and Lasik procedures can result in a side effect called the halo effect. Sometimes, halo effect can be serious. This complication is annoying and troubling, since it makes driving at night almost impossible for the patients.

Damaged Flap:

Flap damage is very common among patients who opt for lasik surgery. A hinged flap that is created at the center of the cornea, could sometimes dislodge unexpectedly. Though it can be replaced after the treatment, it is not 100% certain in all cases. This kind of laser eye surgery complication presents many problems for the patients.

Distorted Flap:

In this laser eye surgery complication, the flap can be sometimes distorted so much that it can affect a patient's corrected vision.

Conclusion:

Any type of surgery or surgical procedure is not risk-free. Though the laser eye surgeries involve risks, patients opting for it do not suffer from any major complications. Patients with pre-operative stages may suffer from a few complications. Laser eye treatments produce remarkable results in patients and also restore proper 'vision' in many. The results outweigh any minor laser eye surgery complication that may occur in the post-operative stage.
