What is Motion Capture (MoCap)?
Motion capture, also known as Performance Capture, is a technique of digitally recording the human body movement (or other movement) for analysis and playback. Motion capture for computer character animation involves the mapping of human motion onto the motion of a computer character.

Why use Motion Capture?
Motion Capture allows you to:

Save time!

Experience the most cost-effective way of replicating the movements of human beings or objects in computer-generated productions.

Ease the animation process much more!

Begin from a higher level of completion than pure keyframing does, giving the animator more time and flexibility to create truly spectacular and artistic animations!

Streamline your production pipeline and delivers animation with photo-realistic subtlety and nuance! place an actor in a scene that may be impractical, or too dangerous to do in real life.

Do scenes that would normally be very costly. For example, calling your principal actors back to put them in a scene that was damaged or not shot originally, or putting them in a scene that is unsuitable for normal blue screen methods.

Do the impossible. Either impossible motion such as alien movement, or impossible shapes that move realistically such as an actor dancing with a real chair, seemingly come to life.

Why use Inner Esteem Motion Capture Library?
We own an extensive library of stock motion data for you to choose from, which will help in your project development, whether you need just a few moves or do not have time to do a whole shoot.

Our extensive Motion Capture library helps even a small gaming company to utilize our motion data to implement in its upcoming game development!

Now you can add realism and life to your character animations with ease!

What are the technologies used?
At Inner Esteem- Motion Capture Studios, we use optical motion capture. Optical motion capture systems can offer the performer the most freedom of movement since they do not require any cabling.

Inner Esteem- Motion Capture Studios currently owns 16 Motion Analysis cameras; it is one of the largest optical camera systems in the Asia Pacific region. We are able to capture any movement with multiple actors in our 40'x20' capture space and we provide all the supporting activities for the motion capture to become a real 3D animation.

We use the latest digital imaging technologies to fully take advantage of the recent advances in cameras, processing and networking. We can bring more advanced tracking algorithms with subpixel marker centroid calculations and auto labelling.

How do we capture the motion/ performance?

Optical systems that we are using allow us to incorporate directionally-reflective balls referred to as markers which attach to the performer. Our video cameras are equipped with a light source each that is aligned to illuminate the field of view for that camera. Each camera is in turn connected to a synchronized frame buffer.

The computer is presented with each camera view in order to calculate a 3D position of each marker; the resulting data stream therefore consists of 3D position data for each marker. This data is then applied to an inverse kinematics system, to animate a skeleton. Post-production works are done to clean up" the movements recorded to provide you with the best quality motion for your project.
