Hurricane Fear and What to Do About It

Indeed many are worried about this upcoming 2006 Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season and if you like in the Great State of Florida a little bit of "Fear" is not such a bad thing. The Extreme South of Florida has some very low elevation levels and is dangerous in the event of a large category Hurricane, due to flooding and nothing to block the winds there. For those who live in the Keys a Cat IV or Cat V are not even something that one would want to consider.

Within the next decade mankind will develop ways to steer Hurricanes away from heavily populated areas and currently we are finding ways to insure that there is ample warning to help citizens get out of the way. As far as the "Fear-Factor" which many are experiencing, one might also consider that we are merely humans living on the surface of the planet and we are not in control of everything.

Recently I had a conversation with some think tankers in San Francisco and Seattle who are equally worried about over do large Earthquakes and Volcanic Activity in Washington State. Then I got a call from a friend in San Diego CA, discussing the issues with the 6.8 Earthquake in the Sea of Cortez (Baja CA) and the problems a major Earthquake any closer could cause for that most Southern Area of CA.

So, perhaps one should not fear so much but rather be prepared to evacuate and have storm shutters and be careful about debris, which could fly around and damage things. Also do not live in an area prone to flooding and it is obvious where those areas are now that we have been thru so many Hurricanes in Florida. So think on this in 2006.
