A lot has been written about Strength and Conditioning for Golfers, what I would like to add here is looking at from a mental coach perspective. When you have being following your strength and conditioning program and all the training drills, for at least 14-16 weeks, you will undoubtedly feel a great relief, that when executing your game strategy, everything is or are falling into place. Before you get to this point, you have to put in the time (doing all the different strength and conditioning programs), otherwise it does not work. The physical side of golf besides the golf training drills, is made up of Strength component- (may or may not involve weights) areas include abdominals, lower back, shoulders and forearms and some leg work Conditioning component- the aerobic part of the program, to be able to walk the 18 holes and not feels unduly tired Stretching or flexibility component- sore and tight shoulder muscle will add 4 strokes to your score just like that The increase in confidence you get, when all your plans are coming to fruition, because you have been following all your programs religiously, will have a great impact on your game and the other 3 of your group. The only time I see this coming undone is when you do an out from one bunker into another on the other side of the green, two times in a row. Understand that some parts of the training program are just plan boring, especially the aerobic components, so you get around this by learning to switch your focus on and off. Having said that, remember that its not what you get, but how you react to it( adding fuel to the fire) Golf( has a game), takes a lot out of you. Focus on the the T shoot, focus on the green and you have to do all of that 18 time, I did not mention your other golfing buddy, annoying habit of coaching you. Abdominals- crunch X 20 X 3, some oblique cross abdo work X 10 X 3 right and 10 left and back extension X 20 X 3 Shoulder and forearms - pushups alternate narrow and wide X 20 X 3 look for aerobic and stretching coming soon |
